***IMPORTANT SERVICE UPDATES***
Storm Eowyn disruption Local and National services – Friday 24th January

Information summarised from our local and regional operators is as follows - please do only travel if you consider your journey to be absolutely necessary.

CrossCountry trains
CrossCountry services to the North East of England and Scotland on Friday 24 January will start and terminate at Leeds. Please do not attempt to travel between York, Newcastle, and Edinburgh.

For all other routes, please check your journey before you travel.

Tickets for travel on Friday 24 January for affected journeys are valid for travel from Thursday 23 January to Monday 27 January.

Please check your journey before you travel and refer to our Service Updates page for the most up-to-date information. The latest updates will be shared on our social media channels.

Grand Central Rail
Avoid travelling where possible and, if you do choose to travel, make sure you check before travelling. Customers intending to travel on Friday 24th January may alternatively use their ticket on any Grand Central service between Thursday 23rd and Tuesday 28th January without incurring charges.

On our North East route, we are strongly advising customers to not travel to and from stations north of York.

London North Eastern Railway
The Met Office has issued multiple weather warnings for high winds across the UK on Friday 24 January. The arrival of Storm Éowyn is expected to cause widespread disruption across the rail network.

There will be no trains operating north of Newcastle in either direction on Friday 24 January and no LNER services operating within Scotland. Services north of York will also be subject to short-notice cancellation and significant delay due to weather-related speed restrictions. Where trains are cancelled or routes are closed, we will be unable to provide road transport due to the expected severity of the weather.

As a result, we are advising customers not to travel to and from stations north of York on Friday 24 January.

What are your options?

You can use your tickets to travel later up to and including Tuesday 28 January. Please note that due to planned engineering between Peterborough and London King's Cross on Saturday 25 and Saturday 26 January, we will not be operating any direct services to or from London King's Cross and this should be considered if you are altering your travel plans. For further information about this engineering and the impact on our usual timetable, please see here.

Tickets will be valid between the two stations listed on your original ticket and in the same class of travel. Where possible, we recommend making a new seat reservation.

Claim a full refund

If you choose not to travel by train, you will be entitled to a full refund. This can be requested through My Account. Alternatively, if you booked via a third party and are no longer travelling as a result of this update, please contact your point of purchase to claim a refund.
We are monitoring the weather and will be providing further updates regularly here and on our social media channels. Other operators and routes are also likely to be affected by the weather and we recommend checking your full journey, including any connections, before you travel, as some routes will be fully closed and no services will be running.

You can find further information about how severe weather and storms affect the railway here.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Northern
We advise customers to avoid travelling where possible on Friday 24 January due to high winds and rain likely to impact train travel.

If you do choose to travel make sure you check before travelling as trains may be cancelled at very short notice with onward connections not possible.

Try not to rely on the last services of the day, as they may be cancelled, and bad weather may restrict road transport.

For some routes, we are advising do not travel. This means there are no trains or replacement bus services available.

We will keep this page updated with information where possible, but for the latest details, check the services updates page or view journey checker.
